An awareness seminar on “Cyber Extortion” to protect youth from digital risks

In support of Mansoura National University’s efforts to promote community awareness and foster a culture of digital safety among its students, and under the patronage of Professor Dr. Sherif Khater, President of the University and Chairman of the Board of the Human Rights Unit, and the leadership of Professor Dr. Raefa Refaat Allam, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Executive Director of the University’s Human Rights Unit,

the Faculty of Nursing, in cooperation with the University’s Human Rights Unit, organized an awareness seminar entitled “The Hidden Danger in the Open World: Cyber Extortion” on Wednesday, October 1. The seminar was delivered by Dr. Al-Zahraa Mahmoud Hassan Motawea, Lecturer in Food Science and Nutrition and Officer of the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit at the Faculty of Agriculture, Mansoura University. The seminar addressed the concept of cyber extortion and its various forms, raised awareness of its psychological and social impacts, reviewed the legal frameworks for combating such crimes, and presented real-life cases highlighting the seriousness of the phenomenon.

The event also included training participants on preventive skills that enable safe use of social media platforms, in addition to introducing official reporting channels, including the Cybercrime Hotline (108), the Internet Investigation numbers (0224065051 – 0224065052), and the National Council for Women Hotline (15115).

In this context, Professor Dr. Raefa Refaat Allam affirmed that organizing such activities reflects the University’s commitment to its mission of building an aware and responsible generation capable of confronting contemporary digital challenges. She emphasized that Mansoura National University, through its awareness initiatives, seeks to instill a culture of digital safety, thereby strengthening its role in community service and supporting its vision of achieving academic excellence and societal leadership.
